“Aye, There’s the Rub”
Presented by Seth Berkowitz, Digital Restoration Supervisor, Cineric. Cineric’s restoration of Bus Stop (1956, 20th Century Fox) hinged on a Cinemascope negative raked with scratches, mysterious secondary elements, and a daunting array of choices. We present a step-by-step account of digital strategies employed, as well as roads not taken, in rehabilitating a Marilyn Monroe classic.
“NDIIPP, Preserving Digital Public Television Project”
Presented by Kara Van Malssen, Senior Research Scholar & Meta Data Specialist, NYU. Preserving Digital Public Television (PDPTV) is a collaboration among Thirteen/WNET, WGBH, PBS, and New York University. Part of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP) of the Library of Congress, the project has led the effort to preserve the nation’s born-digital public television heritage since 2005.
“The State of (Teaching) Video Preservation”
Presented by Mona Jimenez, Associate Arts Professor/Associate Director, Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program, New York University. Since 2004, the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program, MIAP, at NYU has been teaching video preservation to prospective moving image archivists, attending to both analog and ‘born digital’ materials. With equipment and expertise disappearing, standards still evolving, and the inevitable convergence of work flows from video engineering and IT, moving image archivists must constantly refine technical methods and labenvironments.
